Nani and Lisa
Suburban Growers

Meet Nani and Lisa, founders of Alabama Microgreens and Other Delights!  We currently service the Huntsville, Madison, and Athens areas of North Alabama.  If you would like us to come speak to your group or write an article for your website, paper or newsletter, we would love to help.  Please contact us at: 256 - 677-0725

Growing Environment

We use BPA-FREE growing trays and natural pH and microbial resistant coconut coir substrate.  The air in our greenhouse growing environment is purified to ensure healthy contaminant-free environment. We use Advanced Filtered, Ionized, hydrogen rich, pH controlled, water for watering microgreens and other vegetables. All cleaning and sanitizing is done by our Proprietary 3 Step process to insure bacteria and mold free surfaces.  After germination in a dark, seed incubator, we use Natural Sunlight or specialized spectrum, plant grow lights  in a temperature and humidity controlled atmosphere to finish the microgreens. They are cleaned and packaged in your choice of cardboard or recyclable food grade plastic containers. You have a choice of live or ready harvested greens.

Sunlight

The sun, a torch, and a light bulb all emit energy in the form of particles called photons. The photons from the sun are a product of thermonuclear fusion. A torch uses a chemical reaction to burn. A light bulb converts electricity to photons. But a photon is a photon – and light is light – whether it comes from the sun, grow lamp or  flashlight.
The light from the sun is however, different than a lamp one way: most artificial light doesn’t emit as much energy in the red and blue region of the light spectrum as sunlight does.  In other words, different ratios of reds, yellows and blues all combine together to make up white sunlight.
Sunlight is best for most plants including Microgreens as it is generally more intense than artificial light, and it’s pretty equally distributed among the different wavelengths that earthly plants have evolved to like best. Our trials have shown better yields and stronger flavors growing with diffused sunlight in our greenhouse. Another benefit of Sunlight is that grow lamps need energy to light up while Sunlight is unlimited and free.  However,
over the years technology has evolved and experts have taught us  how to successfully grow plants using only artificial light in grow chambers. We love to grow in Natural Sunlight but when the need arises we have the opportunity to grow indoors, and that is when the quality and spectrum of our grow lights count. Our Optimal Light growing cycle includes: 3 days in darkness, 2 days under T8 Led Tubes and/or T5 Grow Light 4.2 and finish off 2 days in natural sunlight diffused inside the greenhouse.

State of the Art Growrooms

Although our Greenhouse can accommodate up to 25 trays per cycle, demand for our Microgreens has expanded, therefore we have had to expand our growing capacity to include two indoor atmosphere controlled growrooms. Our hydroponic microgreen cultivation facilities are fitted with latest in led full spectrum lighting and ozone air filtering environment control.  The quality of our produce can only be as good as the environment we  grow in.

Water

We use a unique water filter which is the only one tested for over 170 contaminants, reducing 99.9% such as:
  • Chemicals like Chlorine & Fluoride
  • Heavy Metals like Arsenic,  Lead,  & Chromium VI
  • Pharmaceuticals
...and other tough to remove contaminants.
